Applications are currently open for the Gilman International Scholarship, a prestigious study abroad scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of State.  UC has had successful applicants in past years and we hope to continue that success in this year’s application cycle.  Our study abroad advisors can offer advising and essay support to help make your application as competitive as possible.  This session will review application components and discuss best practices for successful applications.

The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman Scholarship is an undergradu‚Äčate scholarship program for U.S. citizens of limited financial means to enable them to study or intern abroad. The program provides awards of up to $5,000 for students who are U.S. citizens, Federal Pell Grant recipients, and studying at undergraduate level at a two or four-year institution. Receiving this scholarship will make you a more competitive candidate for jobs, other scholarships, and admission to graduate programs. In addition to funding, recipients will become part of a network of well-connected Gilman alumni and have the opportunity for 12 months of noncompetitive eligibility (NCE) hiring status within the federal government

Deadline:  October 5th for students studying abroad Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and Academic Year 2022-2023 programs.  There will also be a March 2022 deadline for that will encompass Summer 2022, Fall 2022, Academic Year 2022-2023, and Spring 2023 programs or internships.  If a student is not successful in an earlier round, they may re-apply in a later application cycle. 

Eligibility:  U.S. citizens who are Pell Grant recipients studying or interning on a credit-bearing study abroad program.  Virtual programs are eligible as long as they are also credit-bearing.
